The Difference Between a CT Scan and an EBT ScanA full body scan is used to describe a quick, noninvasive body scan that images specific sections of the body. A medical professional can use those images to aid in the early detection, prevention, and possible treatment of certain medical conditions.
There are 2 primary types of equipment available to obtain body scans. The EBT scan is performed using an electron beam tomography machine and the CT scan is performed using a computed tomography machine / spiral CT imaging device. These are the popular pieces of equipment used today to obtain full body scans. The EBT and CT both utilize current technological advances to obtain clear, accurate, and quick body scans. The EBT Scan The FDA-approved EBT utilizes the most advanced software and has become the standard for which other body scan devices are measured against for cardiac imaging. The EBT was originally designed for cardiac imaging and is the best device for obtaining quick images of plaque deposits in cardiac vessels, however, three-dimensional images of the lungs, liver, colon, kidney, and other abdominal organs are obtained, in addition to the heart. The CT Scan The CT is used to obtain two-dimensional images of specific sections of the body. It is often used to obtain focused images of the body following trauma because it can show clear images of multiple kinds of tissues in the body (soft tissues like muscle and blood vessels as well as hard structures like bone). A spiral CT machine can be used to obtain full body scans, and are especially useful for imaging the lungs. Read more about the spiral CT scan. Just as the world has seen improvements in technology and its uses over the last decade, there have been advances made in devices and equipment used in medicine that rely heavily on technology. Body scanning, a popular and accepted way to screen for multiple medical conditions, has benefited from these technological advances by becoming a reliable medical screening tool.
